The Best Floors Are Decided Before They're Installed
A floor is one of the few surfaces in a home you touch every day. It carries the furniture and the foot traffic, sets the tone of every room it runs through, and outlasts most of the decisions made around it. Choosing one well takes someone who understands the material, the space, and the way you actually live — and who stays involved from the first conversation to the final coat of finish.
That is the company we set out to build.
Where We Started
Before Riftline installed a single floor, we spent years on the manufacturing and wholesale side of the flooring industry. That vantage point taught us how species, construction, milling, texture, and finish shape the way a floor performs — and it showed us a gap. A floor could be selected with real care and still lose something on its way to the finished room, because choosing the product and executing the installation were treated as two separate jobs.
Riftline exists to close that gap. One standard runs through the entire project — the material, the subfloor beneath it, the installation, sanding and finishing, the final walkthrough — so the floor you chose is the floor you live with.
Seeing the Whole Board
There is no single best floor — only the best floor for a particular room, household, and budget. Solid and engineered hardwood, site-finished and prefinished boards, waterproof and LVP options, dozens of species, widths, textures, and finishes each earn their place in the right setting. We aren't tied to any manufacturer or product line, so nothing narrows the list before you do. Classic oak may be exactly right for one project; another might call for walnut, hickory, or pecan, a Brazilian or European species, or a textured wide plank that changes the character of the whole room.
Our recommendations begin with how you live: children and pets, traffic, moisture, maintenance, future refinishing, aesthetics, and budget. Sometimes the answer is the premium option. Sometimes a simpler product does exactly what the room requires — and we'll tell you that, too. Either way, you decide with the full picture in front of you.
The Work You'll Never See
Much of what determines whether a floor succeeds disappears the day the project is finished. Subfloor condition, moisture levels, acclimation, installation method, the quality of the sanding beneath the final coat — none of it is visible in year one, and all of it matters in year ten. So we start below the surface, evaluating what the new floor will rest on and explaining any preparation that will help the finished installation perform as intended.
We're just as direct about the process itself: the schedule, the dust, the finishing timeline, and what to expect at each stage. And from the first measurement to the last walkthrough, you work directly with us. The people who scope your project are the people who see it through.

Riftline is run by two brothers whose strengths cover different halves of the same job.
Dan Gold
Dan Gold has spent more than fifteen years in the flooring industry, much of it working directly with manufacturers of domestic, imported, solid, and engineered hardwood. He knows material at the level of grain, milling, and construction, and has a particular talent for matching a floor to the character of a space. As a husband, father of two, and homeowner, he also knows a floor has to work beyond the sample board — it has to make sense for the way a family actually uses the house.
Dave Gold
Dave Gold runs the part of the project you'll feel most: communication, scheduling, organization, and follow-through. His favorite moment in any project is watching a client discover a possibility they hadn't considered, then seeing it realized in the finished room. A homeowner, husband, and father of two himself, he works from a simple understanding: this isn't happening on a job site. It's happening in your home.
Why “Riftline”
The name comes from rift sawn lumber, a traditional cut prized for its straight, consistent grain. It isn't the cut that pulls the most boards from a log. It's the cut you choose when the character of the finished board matters more than the fastest path through the wood.
That trade — more deliberation for a better result — is one we're glad to make on every decision a project involves.
Rooted Here, Working Statewide
Riftline is based in Northern New Jersey, and much of our work stays close to home, in Bergen County and the communities around it, with a second hub in Ocean County covering the Shore. But we take on projects for homeowners, builders, designers, and general contractors throughout New Jersey, and we're glad to travel for the right one.
We intend to grow — just not out of the way we work: owners on every project, recommendations made for the home in front of us, and floors judged by how they hold up, not just how they photograph on day one.
